2022 NBA Finals: A Recap

Throughout the 2022 NBA finals, there have been many headliners about star players’ performance. One player who has shined throughout the NBA finals is Stephen Curry. There has always been this thought that Curry did not elevate his performance in the playoffs, and especially the finals. In this year’s finals, Curry has put his team on his back averaging 34.3 points per game which is one of the best all-time in the finals. Another player that has gotten a lot of good attention is Jaylen Brown. Before the NBA finals, every analyst thought Jason Tatum would be the best player for the Celtics this NBA final, but after Jaylen Brown’s performance, it is clear that he should be the MVP for the Celtics. Brown is averaging 22.3 points per game with a +4.8 plus-minus along with 7 rebounds. As Jason Tatum has been struggling, Brown has been the clear leader of the Celtics and is the reason the Celtics are tied up at 2-2 right now. Although Jason Tatum’s statistics are good, his play on the court in the first 4 games does not represent his statistics. Tatum is currently averaging 22.3 points per game but is shooting a career-low field goal percentage of 34.1%. In game 2 of the finals, Tatum had the worst plus-minus stat in NBA finals history with a -36 which means that the team gave up 36 extra points while he was on the court highlighting his terrible performance. Although he was expected to win finals MVP if the Celtics one, at this time before game 5, it seems almost impossible for Tatum to become the leader of the Celtics. The reason Tatum has played so poorly is because of Andrew Wiggins’s amazing difference throughout the series. Andrew Wiggins has received a lot of credit for his amazing defense on Tatum but also for his scoring ability on the offensive in this series. The warrior’s leader, Draymond Green has played the worst series of his career averaging 4.3 points per game. His poor play forced Warriors head coach Steve Kurr to pull Green in the most important minutes in game four. In order for the Celtics or the Warriors to win this year’s finals, the role players on the team must step up and support their star player. As of this writing, the series is tied 2-2 with no team in full control of the series. It will be interesting to see who wins the NBA finals and who steps up for either team.
